Roads through Venezuela are generally of a high standard, especially in and around more populous areas – elsewhere the quality does tend to drop, however. Bus services cover the whole country and offer affordable, semi-comfortable, reliable travel – it is the most used method of traversing the nation and as such the bus system is well developed. Taxi services are also widely available, and fares should be agreed on before travelling. There is also a Metro service in Caracas. Regular boat services operate to and from the offshore islands of Venezuela, and offer a relaxing and scenic route to some of the most beautiful areas in the country. Internal flights are available and run regularly, but services can prove comparatively expensive next to other forms of transport and flights can seem chaotically overbooked at times.
